The Mid Wales Farmstay Experience

Nannerth Fawr is a 200 acre traditional organic farm in the old county of Radnorshire, Mid Wales. We’re one of the popular choices for accommodation in Rhayader, and a first choice for many looking for places to stay near the Elan Valley, Hay on Wye, and the Brecon Beacons. We breed Welsh Mountain sheep and Boer Goats and also keep a variety of poultry. Our 2 working cocker spaniels are friendly, lively and clever. They sometimes accompany guests on walks around the farm.

It is an excellent area for laid back outdoor farm holidays where relaxation is a priority. Our guests return many times to enjoy the varied walking, birdwatching and outdoor activities. You can experience life on an old fashioned working farm, with animals free to roam outdoors and traditional seasonal work such as haymaking and lambing.

Sustainable & Green Mid Wales Holidays

At Nannerth Country Holidays, we aim to run our cottage breaks in a sustainable way, by not taking out more than we put in and not damaging or depleting natural resources.

For over 30 years we have worked to create a farm and holiday business within a biodiverse environment where wildlife can thrive. The farm has very special areas which include traditional flower rich hay meadows, sessile oak woods, river margins and the wetlands we have created. These areas are home to many wildlife and plant species, and we manage these organically in order to maintain healthy sheep flocks and a healthy natural environment.

Farming and Conservation

The farm includes lots of varied habitat and ungrazed areas for wildlife and plants to thrive. The private nature reserve on the farm has wetlands and ponds with a good variety of wildlife making it their home. Holiday cottage guests are welcome to walk in the woods, wetlands, hay meadows and riverside, taking time to enjoy the natural environment. We border the Elan Valley and are in a dark skies area where the stars are bright and gorgeous.

Tree Planting for the Future

We have planted about 40,000 deciduous and conifer trees to create new woodland for fuel, recreation, carbon capture, shelter for livestock and habitat improvement.

Farm cottage holiday guests who choose Nannerth will enjoy a truly sustainable green holiday. We hope you will experience this on the farm, in the holiday cottages and the local area. To see baby Barn Owls sitting at dusk on an oak tree branch, to see brilliant stars in the dark night sky and to see the sparkling colours of a Southern Hawker hovering over the water are magical experiences.

Explore Mid Wales and Beyond

Our family lodges and cottages are excellent bases for exploring central Wales and the border ‘March’ country. We are an hour from the sea and the university town of Aberystwyth and an hour or so from the Cathedral city of Hereford, Hay on Wye town of books and the beautiful March area. Rugged Snowdonia lies to the north and the Brecon Beacons to the south. Driving is pleasant on uncrowded roads, although there is plenty to do on the farm and nearby.
