It’s a calm, rural place to settle in for a few days, whether you want long walks and fresh air, or an easy break with time to slow down. We wanted a family getaway where we could reconnect with nature and relax in beautiful surroundings and Nannerth did not disappoint! The Tollent was beautiful and perfect for the six of us, clean and well equipped. The play barn and outdoor play area were very much enjoyed by our 3 children (age 7,9&12) and the farm animals and dogs were loved by all. Being able to enjoy the farm and walk down to the river was just lovely and Alison and Andre were fantastic hosts. A perfectly wonderful holiday enjoyed by all of us. ‘My family of 5 (baby 11 months , 6 year old and 4 year old) had a brilliant time at Nannerth. It is a magical place to stay and so relaxing. It was lovely to be able to let the kids go off and do their own thing, whilst we relaxed on the terrace overlooking the valley and the woods. My husband and 4 year old saw a juvenile badger from the tree house which was a real highlight and my daughter and I loved playing with the goats. The owners and their gorgeous dogs were so friendly. Recent snow has turned the landscape into a winter wonderland. Great for long or short walks from the cottages.

Thousands of tadpoles hatched in the pools and ponds this year.

Beauty had triplets at the end of March. They have grown and are thriving but Beauty is a little exhausted. Goats only have 2 teats but all three have managed to get enough milk. As you can see there isn’t a ‘runt’ although Poppy the brown one is the largest.

The wildlife ponds with irises and foxgloves. The best digger driver in Wales has dug out the ponds to deepen and improve them for amphibians and other water loving creatures.

Late May and June is the best time for birdwatching. Many Pied Flycatchers and Redstarts nest in the boxes around the farm at this time of year.

Our woodlands are carpeted with bluebells. So blue and so restful to stroll here in Bluebell Wood.

The Wetlands are alive with plants, insects and amphibians. Plenty of grasses and plants for the horses too.

Our lovely grey goose hatched and raised 6 goslings with her gander this year. Can you distinguish the young ones from the parents?

Guests use the hot tubs for relaxation and fun. The private Granary hot tub is tucked away next to the cottage with fantastic views across the hills and fields.

Sitting in the sunshine and stripping the seeds from Honesty is very cathartic. I have distributed white honesty seeds to friends in the Elan Valley and Rhayader.

We recommend the 16th century Triangle Inn which is our local. Eat in the cosy traditional bar or out in the warmer weather – but make sure to book ahead as the Triangle is very popular with locals and visitors.

We set out for town and got a little held up by this slow moving bullock on walkabout from his field. He wasn’t in a hurry, but then nor were we on a sunny rainwashed morning.

Walking the farm in winter is magical when snow and frost are on the ground. This is the riverside walk with wintry sun gleaming throught the old oak trees. Envigorating and beautiful, this walk is just a few minutes from the holiday cottages.

There are gentle and more strenuous walks on the farm. Our seats provide welcome rest spaces for cyclists and walkers. Great for a picnic.

One lamb on the bottle for supplementary feeding. Sometimes a ewe has insufficient  milk and the lamb is hungry. We hope to wean the lamb off the bottle as the ewe’s milk increases.

Beautiful wildflower meadows provide good quality hay for the sheep and goats. Hope the sun shines in July.

All our Christmas guests had a tree and decorations ready for them on arrival.  It was lovely to meet them all and a welcome end to the storms a week earlier.

These misty sunny mornings are stunning . We are usually above the mist here at Nannerth and it’s wonderful when the sun comes through.

As you walk along the lane and paths on the farm you will see many interesting lichen species, indicating the air quality is good

It’s always a delight to visit Powis Castle. The gardens are gorgeous, the yew hedges absolutely incredible and and the cafe not to be missed.

A wonderful sunny Round the Lakes race day. Setting off from the the Smithfield, Rhayader runners either tackle the 10 km or the 30 km run in glorious countryside. 800 participants this year!
